CANADIANS DESERVE THE C-27J

Leonardo Aircraft, in partnership with General Dynamics Canada and DRS Technologies Canada Ltd., is bidding the C-27J aircraft for Canada’s pending Fixed Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) program.

The C-27J Spartan is the most capable and uncompromising search and rescue aircraft in its class. It is a twin-engine, turboprop, tactical transport aircraft with state of the art technology in avionics, propulsion and systems, resulting in strong performance and cost savings.

Additionally, the C-27J, thanks to its speed, can reach locations anywhere in Canada fast, including those in the far North and at sea.

Once at the search location, the C-27J’s speed and unrefueled range allow SAR crews to cover the search area quickly and stay on station for extended periods of time.
The C-27J can also take-off and land quickly, virtually anywhere. It can make tight turns, climb and descend rapidly, and was designed for short take-off and landing (STOL) on unprepared fields and landing strips.

With a rugged construction, highest in its class power-to-weight ratio, and the ability to perform tight turns, the C-27J is built for the SAR mission.

The C-27J was developed to be interoperable with the existing fleet of C-130s. This includes sharing the same propulsion system and a significant percentage of the avionics. This commonality will reduce cost and spare requirements, as well as the time required to train maintenance personnel, making the C 27J a cost-effective and low-risk solution.
With Alenia Aermacchi’s C-27J platform, GD Canada’s system integration expertise, DRS TCL’s capabilities in training, and Kelowna Flightcraft’s experience in MRO, engineering and supply chain management, this team offers Canada the very best aircraft for FWSAR with a strong Canadian presence.

The long-term engineering and maintenance support of the fleet and the resulting long-term, well-paying jobs across the country will make this partnership an outstanding economic stimulus for Canada’s aerospace sector.

Canada demands a modern, capable Search and Rescue Aircraft.

Canadians deserve the C-27J.
