OTTAWA, ON, October 27 – The Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC), is proud to announce that the Honourable Marc Garneau will be honoured at this year’s annual Canadian Aerospace Summit Dinner on Nov. 8, 2022 with the inauguration of a new award recognizing his significant achievements in advancing Canadian aerospace.

“Marc exemplifies the very best of Canadian aerospace as a pioneer and role model. As the first Canadian in space, Marc has inspired countless young Canadians by showing what can be possible. Throughout his long and distinguished career, his achievements have elevated our nation and inspired generations.  It is our privilege to have him join us at this year’s Summit for the inauguration of this new award in his name,” said Mike Mueller, President and CEO, AIAC.

“My message for a long time has been that the aerospace industry is one of the great strengths of our country. One only has to look at its accomplishments. But beyond what it has accomplished, its potential remains enormous and the government has an important role to play, a message that I convey at every possible opportunity,”  said the Honourable Marc Garneau.

In addition to his significant achievements in aerospace, the Hon. Marc Garneau has led a life of public service serving in the Canadian Forces, as President of the Canadian Space Agency and as a Member of Parliament and Minister of the Crown. Throughout his entire career, he has been an ardent champion for the industry.

The Marc Garneau Award honours an individual or groups who have demonstrated extraordinary efforts towards building, supporting and championing aerospace.  The recipient(s) will exemplify the best of Canadian aerospace as a true source of pride for Canadians.

Contributions, achievements, and extraordinary efforts carried out in close collaboration with the industry, in support of Canadians across the country, will be especially considered for the award.
