Airbus Defence and Space employed more than 38,000 people and generated revenues of €11 .8 Billion in 2016. It is comprised of three business lines – Military Aircraft, Space Systems, and Communication, Intelligence & Security (CIS).
Military Aircraft designs, develops, builds, delivers and supports fixed-wing military aircraft used for combat, search and rescue, transport, ISR and air-to-air refueling amongst other missions. It is a single point of contact for both aircraft and ISS . Military Aircraft is a world leader in search and rescue aircraft including the multi-mission capable C295W which has been selected by Canada for the Fixed Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) program. The C295W combines a mission-proven, versatile, and robust platform; a flexible mission system that integrates state-of-the-art sensors and data processing; and world-class logistics support. The C295W incorporates very high Canadian direct content and has the lowest life-cycle cost of any aircraft in its category. More than 185 C295s have been acquired by 25 countries. Other aircraft in the Military Aircraft’s portfolio include the Eurofighter, the A400M heavy lift transport; the A330 multirole transport and tanker (MRTT); and unmanned aerial systems.
Space Systems is the second largest space company in the world and an industry leader in the commercial, civil and defence space sectors . Its capabilities include satellites, payloads and instruments, and ground segment systems. Space Systems provides satellite systems and solutions for Earth observation and surveillance, navigation, meteorology and science satellites; and communications satellites for military, mobile, fixed and broadcast applications.
Communications, Intelligence & Security (CIS) is a global leading provider of (1) optical and radar satellite imagery, services and solutions, acquired by a unique constellation of Earth observation satellites built by Airbus Defence and Space; (2) C4ISR systems and related solutions; and (3) CyberSecurity consulting services, monitoring and managed services, digital communications security and encryption technology, and the Stormshield family of products for network and data security. CIS customers are in the government (defence, security, public safety, critical infrastructure), and commercial (transportation, energy, mining, agriculture, manufacturing) sectors.
